Be Grateful – Be Happy
I’ve been recently asked by some of my clients and friends how do I keep a smile on my face most of the time. How can they find joy or even find some light in their lives.
One of the key practices that I have learned to apply to my daily routine is Gratitude. Exercising gratitude takes time and consistency, but I assure you it is extremely worth it.
Practicing gratefulness is linked to having better health, improved emotions, a biochemical shift in the body and of course, it is known to cause happiness! It has been reported to also raise levels of positive states of determination, enthusiasm, alertness, attentiveness and energy.
Who wouldn’t want all these things in their life?
Imagine how great would it be to have a life filled with a greater sense of well-being and joy just by feeling and expressing gratitude.
One study from the University of Pennsylvania found that people who wrote and delivered a heartfelt thank-you letter actually felt happier for a full month after.
So how can you cultivate this practice? There are several tools you could use and I invite you to apply them as soon as you finish watching the video and reading this post.
Gratefulness Tools:
- Meditate at least 10 minutes a day. Take a deep breath and incorporate gratitude during your daily meditation.
- Have a gratitude journal. By writing down positive things that happen to you and actively acknowledging those who have helped you, you become better at recognizing the good in your life, which naturally helps you feel more grateful and thankful more often.
- Keep a visual. You don’t need to go overboard with writing. My dear productivity coach and friend Suz Amaro, told me one day in one of her coaching sessions, just right down 3 things that you’re grateful for each day and you will notice a change in your life. Sure enough it worked, there hasn’t been a day since then that I don’t catch myself being grateful for at least three things.Research says that writing down three positive events each day for a week keeps happiness levels high for up to six months.
Appreciate those around you. Be thankful for everyone and everything as they add something wonderful and positive to your life even when you think it’s the opposite. Remember, we have the power to turn ANY situation into a positive learning experience.
Apply these tools and you will notice a shift. You deserve to have a better quality of life and to make a major impact in this world.
As you live your day to day, notice what surrounds you, the air that you breathe, the food that you eat, the people around you, and give thanks to having them in your life. Appreciate every moment, allow life to guide you, take time to listen, release all your fears, be of service, live and let live, live in constant appreciation.
Instill gratitude in your children, and in those around you. Be an example to others, and most importantly, be grateful for being alive, for your body, for your heart. Take time for yourself, thank God, the Universe, and you will see how open, free, and happy you will feel.
And remember to always LAF
Love unconditionally. Accept without judgements. And Forgive yourself and others.
