Happy Happy Joy Joy
Science tells us that people are bad at predicting what keeps us happy.
It also says that focusing on our passions and purpose can create sustainable happiness.
Yet, here we are, a global society of people that are unhappy (or think they could be happier) in life.
Simply put, everyone wants to be a part of something bigger than ourselves. To have a higher purpose in life.
Happiness is a state of being. It’s not created by simply attaining something.
See… human beings tend to say “when I finish writing my book I’ll be happy” “when I make 1,000,000 dollars I’ll be happy” and it goes on and on. In a company, a manager might say “when my team reaches these goals then the company and myself will be happy”
By the way… did you know that happy employees are 43% more productive; 86% more creative and innovative; and 66% use fewer sick leave days?
Yet, 87% of the workforce is unhappy.
Reality is that we have the power to CHOOSE happiness at every stage of our lives. And we also have the ability of providing the necessary tools to allow a happier environment wherever we are.
What can you do to be happier? These are among the many things that you can personally do to be happy. Note that most of these can be applied in corporations to create a culture of happiness in the workplace:
- Listen to fun and beautiful music – music fills our souls with joy. Whether it’s jazz, merengue, pop rock, classical music. Embrace the emotions that music has to offer.
- Be grateful!! – I can’t stress enough on the importance of gratitude in our lives. You can actually “rewire” your brain to be happy by simply recalling 3 things you’re grateful for every day for 21 days.
- Exercise – move your mind, your body, your spirit. Go out for a run, practice yoga, meditation.
- Surround yourself with happy people – Ever since I can remember, my mom has told me to make it a point to surround myself with people that ADD to my life. With those that even in the hardest times, can make me smile. Guess what… she’s been right all along.
- Ditch sad and action packed movies – Because many films transmit ideas through emotion rather than intellect, they can neutralize the instinct to suppress feelings and trigger emotional release. Watch movies that make you laugh until your belly hurts, or those movies that we simply call “feel good movies” Two examples that I absolutely love are: The Pursuit of Happiness and Hector and the search for happiness.
- Worry less… live more! – We spend so much time worrying about things that we don’t have the power to control, that we forget to be in the PRESENT and make the best out of it.
- Foster Forgiveness – When we hold grudges we affect not only our physical but our mental health. There are multiple ways in which to practice forgiveness. Try by starting to forgive yourself!
- Volunteer and be of service – When we serve we evolve as human beings, and promote love and affection in the world. Which in turn translates into JOY.
Most importantly….CHOOSE TO BE HAPPY.
Don’t wait until the NEXT BIG THING! You are IT! Choose happiness and share it with those around you and with the world.
Until I see you next time, remember to always LAF – Love Unconditionally – Accept Without Judgements – and Forgive Yourselves and Others.
Infinite blessings,
Anadel
